Stewart Island Southland New Zealand
Survey: Stability Book by Stronach & Associates dated 14 October 2002.
Lines Plan by Eken and Doherty, updated 1992.
Vessel history: Effectively this vessel has only had two owners during its lifetime, first owner was New South Wales Government who used her very successfully as a Fisheries Research Vessel from 1970s until 1997. Vessel was sold to Stewart Island ownership in 1997 and was used as a fishing vessel, often in remote areas. Recently vessel has been laid up and not working.
2014 underwater upgrade: In 2014 at Dunedin, the following work was carried out on a slipway.
Water blast, spot blast, sweep blast, all underwater area. Spot prime, applied 3 primer/barrier coats, plus applied 2 full coats antifouling. Whilst on the slip, the vessels hull was ultra scan tested for steel wastage – the owner, and the marine engineer involved, inform us that such testing showed very good results with only one very small area below the hawse pipe needing attention.
Brokers comments: Although neglected recently, this vessel has very good potential to be refreshed and brought back to be a respectable and viable small ship. She will respond to a good refit and will serve a new owner either as a fishing vessel or as an island trader carrying cargo. A steel thickness test, carried out in 1997, shows little by way of steel wastage. Main engine, we believe, will start and run well - no known issues. All worth investigating. Worth refitting. We urge inspection. Based Stewart Island, New Zealand.
