15.15m SAR High-Speed Catamaran designed as a dedicated Multi Mission SAR Vessel by Teknicraft Design and built by Q-West Boat Builders in Whanganui, New Zealand in 2015 to Maritime New Zealand survey.ï¿½ Powered by twin Scania Marine diesel engines, developing a total of 1030 kW which drive twin Hamilton water-jets and provide a top speed of 40 knots and an economical cruise of 27 knots. The vessel features an adjustable lift foil between the hulls and is equipped with an extensive array of electronics for SAR missions.ï¿½ Four cabins located in the vessels hull can accommodate up to 6 persons.

MACHINERY AND ENGINEERING
The vessel is powered by twin Scania DI 13 077M marine diesel engines developing
515 kW each at 2350 rpm, which are coupled to ZF 360 gearboxes, which drive the Hamilton Jet HJ364 water jet units via Cardan drive shafts. The auxiliary engine is a three-cylinder 6kW Onan Genset which is housed in a sound shell in the starboard engine room.
The main engines are 24V electric start, flexibly mounted, saltwater cooled and have wet exhausts.
The general service/fire pump is driven off the starboard main engine.
The engine rooms can be monitored by CCTV from the bridge.
While the engine room areas are very compact, its associated equipment all appears to be well laid out, purposeful and kept in a well-maintained condition.
Access to the engine rooms are via large deck hatches and via a watertight door located under the stairs in the ambulance bay to the port engine room and down through a Freeman hatch in the cockpit shower cubicle to the starboard engine room.

The vessel is constructed of welded Sealium aluminum alloy construction including the decks and cabins structures. The exterior aluminum surfaces have either been covered with stick-on plastic film and decals or left to oxidise. Foam and air filled Hypalon tubes are utilized as fendering on the hull topsides.
The vessel has access via the aft boarding platform to starboard onto the aft cockpit.
The vessel has walk-round decks with steps up onto the fore-deck. From the aft cockpit is central access up through the wheelhouse and down to the saloon forward or down through the ambulance bay to port. The saloon features a U-shaped settee with dining table to port. The galley is adjacent to starboard and is modern and well laid out and features a full range of domestic appliances.
At the forward of the saloon there is access on to the foredeck and also access down to the two cabins in each hull, which feature double or single berths and a central hand basin, mirror and locker. Escape hatches are fitted in the deck head in each of the forward cabins with access onto the foredeck. At the aft end of the saloon amidships are stairs leading up to the wheelhouse, where the helm station is situated to starboard. All navigation communication, engine and systems can be controlled and monitored from this area. There is also the ambulance bay in the port hull with shower and toilet cubicle which can be accessed from either the cockpit to port or from the saloon. Aft of the wheelhouse is the large cockpit and access to the engine rooms in both hulls through large hatches in the cockpit deck. Aft of the port engine room is a covered recessed launching ramp for the RIB Tender which is deployed and retrieved off the transom. Aft of the wheelhouse is a small Flybridge with a set of helm and engine throttle and bucket controls to port.
The accommodation areas are tidy and are fitted out with laminate paneling, joinery and trim. The deck heads are fitted with removable fabric panels.
The wheel house has forward-raked windows and good all-round visibility and is accessed internally up from the main saloon or from the aft deck and is very well laid out.
Features include a comprehensive set of navigation and SAR equipment, a separate Tactical Command area, full size chart table, three KAB 514C suspension seats and a bench seat and table directly behind the helm station.
A modern vessel that is well designed and equipped from new with good quality high specification equipment throughout. The vessel is in exemplary condition having been very well maintained since new and is a credit to the shipyard’s build quality and her crew’s dedication.
The galley area is spacious and well laid out with Formica type bench tops and large stainless sink insert and ample storage cupboards.

PLUMBING AND SANITATION
Pressure water is delivered to the galley, heads and on deck. The filtration and pump system are in starboard void space. Hot water is heated by a gas califont diesel/electrically.
Toilet bowls are Raritan marine style with macerator flush and connect to the 150 liter black water tank. The aft toilet can also discharge overboard. Vanity tops are Formica type with porcelain and stainless basins and domestic single lever tapware.

The foredeck has a Maxwell anchor windlass with a single gypsy recessed under fore deck hatches. The gypsy is loaded with 36kg Sarca anchor on 15m of 10mm short link chain and 60m rope rode. A 22kg Fortress anchor is stowed on the starboard foredeck. There is a spare anchor chain &rope rode stowed in the forward bow void.
An ample number of large aluminum bollards are fitted around the decks.
An Oceanlift davit with 200kg SWL is stowed under the aft cockpit to starboard.
The decks have been garnet blasted for slip resistance.

Primary ships 230V AC electrical power is provided by the Onan 6 kW Genset.
Electrical switching and control gear, including the Mastervolt Mass Combi 24/4000 -120 Inverter/Battery Charger for charging the 24volt and 12volt DC services and the shore power Mastervolt Mass GI 3.5 isolation transformer are all housed in the switch board room, which is located forward of the cockpit shower cubicle. Individual circuits are also controlled from the wheel house. The 24V Engine start batteries are located in each of the engine rooms and are charged from engine alternators and a Mastervolt AC battery charger with a Victron switching diode. The Radio battery is located in the wheelhouse and is charged by a Mastervolt AC battery charger. Automatic Aerosol Fire suppressors are also fitted in the Battery and Pump rooms.
The vessel is equipped and maintained with the safety equipment required for MNZ Inshore & Enclosed Limits for Passenger and Non-Passenger categories.
A single 8-person RFD life raft is carried on the port foredeck.
Two Life Rings and an ACR Global Fix Pro GPS 406 MHz EPIRB is also provided.
There are two FirePro FP1200 Aerosol generators fitted in each of the engine rooms.
A 3.1m RIB with 15hp 2 stroke Yamaha outboard is deployed and retrieved from a ramp located under the starboard cockpit. Life-saving appliances are provided for up to 28 persons.
An emergency Honda G5 Portable Pump is stowed in a dedicated locker in the cockpit.
The vessel has been built and maintained to Maritime New Zealand survey.
