This Bruce Askew designed motor vessel was built with efficiency, stability and safety as criteria and also to full commercial offshore survey requirements. Her beautiful interior fit out of fine exotic timbers (Brazilian and African Cherry and mahogany) compliment her practical deep sea hull and layout making her a true go anywhere vessel.
The MAIA’s hull configuration and sail assist gives great long distance fuel efficiency at 8 litres per hour (2 US gallons) at 8 knots cruise. Max speed is 10.8 knots. Safe range 5,000 miles. Her systems have been designed with simplicity in mind so she has done many thousands of miles with a 2 person crew.
She presents in great condition having just had an Altex 15 years paint system by Alspec Nelson, interior varnish work. Engine heads reconditioned, a new turbo and injectors 2017.
Owned by a professional sea going captain who conceived the idea of this vessel and who built her, MAIA is one of the best motorsailors we have seen in many years of ship broking. Very strongly built. Designed with comfort, stability and safety in mind. Her fit out, with its emphasis on beautiful interior timbers throughout, is world class. If understated quality, safety and cruising comfort are important then we urge you to inspect MAIA. Lying Dunedin, New Zealand.
